With AU 23 purchase of a 50% share in the company Hótel Hamar ehf. control in Hótel Hamar ehf. changed from the joint control of AU 23 ehf. and the seller to sole control of AU 23. Due to limited concerns the merger case was closed without further investigation in phase one.

20.5.2025 : Icelandic Competition Authority‘s interventions delivered impact equivalent to 18-29 times its budget (2015-2024)

The Icelandic Competition Authority has published a report on the assessed impact of its interventions relating to cartels, abuse of dominant position and anti-competitive mergers, following OECD‘s 2014 Guide for helping competition Authorities assess the expected impact of their activities.

26.3.2025 : Competition appeals committee confirms Samskip's extensive and serious cartel infringement

In a ruling issued today, the Competition Case Appeal Committee confirmed that Samskip had engaged in illegal cartel with Eimskip between 2008 and 2013. The ruling imposes a fine of 2.3 billion Icelandic krónur on Samskip for serious and extensive infringements of Article 10 of the Competition Act and Article 53(1) of the EEA Agreement. Additionally, Samskip is fined 100 million krónur for violating its duty to provide information under Article 19 of the Act.
