Nordic Visitor hf. acquisition of Iceland Travel ehf

Nordic Visitor hf. acquired Iceland Travel ehf. Both companies operate as travel retail agencies and wholesale tour operators / travel agencies, selling and planning trips to and within Iceland, to incoming foreign travellers or via wholesale to foreign travel retail agencies for re-sale to such travellers. The authority concluded that the merger did not create a dominant position or significantly impede competition, and therefore approved the merger. The merging parties also notified the Authority of the anticipated minority shareholding of the investment fund AU1 and Alfa framtak ehf., due to a subscription agreement for shares in Nordic Visitor hf. and a shareholders agreement to be executed following a merger approval. The involvement of AU1 and Alfa framtak was assessed in relation to the investigation of the merger‘s effects on competition and the Authority had no specific remarks on the companies‘ negative control.
