Pressan ehf.'s acqusition of twelve newspaper titles formerly published by Fótspor ehf.

The Icelandic Competition Authority (ICA) has reviewed a merger between Pressan ehf. and twelve newspaper titles formerly published by Fótspor ehf. The undertakings operate in the media market. Fótspor ehf. has solely operated in the market for publishing papers but Pressan ehf. also operates in the market for online media. Both merging parties operate in the market for advertisement in media.

This is a horizontal merger since both merging parties operate on the same markets affected by the merger. After its investigation it is the ICA‘s assessment that the merger will neither give rise to a dominant position nor strengthen a dominant position in any market. The merger is not considered liable to cause appreciable harm to competition in other ways. Therefore, there is no reason to intervene in this merger on the basis of Article 17 c of the Icelandic Competition Act no. 44/2005.
