Leitir ehf.'s acquesition of Eggert Kristjánsson hf.

The Icelandic Competition Authority (ICA) has reviewed the acquisition of Eggert Kristjánsson hf. of 70% of all stock in Leitir eignarhaldsfélag ehf. (Leitir). The registered purpose of Leitir is financing and ownership of industrial entities. It owns, among others, Stjarnan ehf. og Sólstjarnan ehf. Stjarnan ehf. owns and operates 24 Subway restaurants in Iceland. Sólstjarnan ehf. is ain import and distribution wholesaler, mainly providing Stjarnan ehf. with supplies for Stjarnan ehf. for its Subway restaurants. Eggert Kristjánsson hf.’s registered purpose is wholesale, managing distribution rights and sales. The undertaking has specialized in import and wholesales of general groceries to retailers. After its investigation it is the ICA's assessment that the merger is not considered liable to cause appreciable harm to competition in any way. Therefore, there is no reason to intervene in this merger on the basis of Article 17 c of the Icelandic Competition Act.
