Merger between Keahótels ehf. and Sandhótel ehf.

The Icelandic Competition Authority (ICA) has reviewed the merger between Keahótels ehf. and Sandhótel ehf. in Reykjavík on the one hand, and Hótel Katla in Mýrdalshreppur, on the other hand. Keahótel owns and operates a total of eight hotels in the capital area and in the northern part of Iceland. Sandhótel is located in central Reykjavik and Hótel Katla in the southern part of Iceland. After its investigation it is the ICA's assessment that the merger will neither give rise to a dominant position nor strengthen of a dominant position in any market. The merger is not considered liable to cause appreciable harm to competition in other ways. Therefore, there is no reason to intervene in this merger on the basis of Article 17 of the Icelandic Competition Act no. 44/2005.
