The merger of Gæðabakstur ehf. And Brauðgerð Kr. Jónssonar ehf (wholesale bread producers)

The Icelandic Competition Authority (ICA) has reviewed a merger between Gæðabakstur ehf. and Brauðgerð Kr. Jónssonar ehf. The undertakings operate in manufacturing and wholesale of bread products and cake products. Gæðabakstur has acquired a 100% share in Brauðgerð Kr. Jónssonar.

This is a horizontal merger since both merging parties operate on the same market affected by the merger. After its investigation, it is the ICA's assessment that the merger will neither give rise to a dominant position nor strengthening of a dominant position in any market. The merger is not considered liable to cause appreciable harm to competition in other ways. Therefore, there is no reason to intervene in this merger based on Article 17 c of the Icelandic Competition Act no. 44/2005.
