The merger of ÍSAM ehf., Fastus ehf. and Aðalkot ehf.

The Icelandic Competition Authority has examined the merger between ÍSAM ehf., Fastus ehf. and Aðalkot ehf. ÍSAM is owned by Kristinn ehf., a holding company owned by Guðbjörg M. Matthíasdóttir. ÍSAM is one of the leading wholesalers in Iceland, a large food producer and importer. Its product portfolio consists of food products, golf equipment, healthcare products and tobacco. ÍSAM‘s food processing is through it‘s subsidaries: ORA, Frón, Kexsmiðjan and Myllan. Fastus is a supplier- and service company consisting of a healthcare department and a department serving the catering sector. The healthcare department provides the healthcare industry with equipment and goods. The catering department sells equipment to government establishments, schools, restaurants and hotels. The merged undertakings mostly operate in different sectors and the merger will only lead to an insignificant increased concentration on the market for certain healthcare products. Consequently there is no reason to intervene in this merger on the basis of Article 17 of the Icelandic Competition Act.
