Summary
The Icelandic Competition Authority has assesed an exemption request pursuant to Article 15 of the Icelandic Competition Act No. 44/2005 from Sýn hf. (Sýn), the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service (RÚV) and Neyðarlínan ohf. (the Emergency Line) for the proposed cooperation on the development of a telecommunications mast at Úlfarsfell in Reykjavík. The request for exemption was accompanied by an agreement on the project, which was signed subject to the approval of the Icelandic Competition Authority.
Sýn is the name of the merged company of Vodafone and the merged media operations, which includes, among other things. Stöð 2, Stöð 2 Sport, Vísi, Bylgjan, FM957 and X977. The company provides comprehensive telecommunications services, such as voice telephony, mobile phones, data transmission, television and Internet services, alongside its media operations. According to the presentation, the purpose of the company is telecommunications, media, information technology and other related activities.

Neyðarlínan is a leading service company in the field of emergency and security services. Its purpose is the operation of an emergency watch station for the coordinated emergency number 112, general response to emergency calls, monitoring of security systems and related operations. The Emergency Line coordinates responses and calls rescue and emergency teams throughout the country and acts as a liaison between Icelanders and emergency responders. The Emergency Line operates the most advanced monitoring station in the country, which utilizes the latest in the field of information and communications technology.
