    The Competition Authority has examined the merger of AU3 ehf. and Málmsteypa Þorgríms Jónssonar ehf. (MÞJ). AU 3 is an investment vehicle for Umbreyting an investment fund. MÞJ among other imports and sells products for utility mains (sewage and drainage). Borgarplast hf. a subsidiary of AU 2 ehf. is also owned by Umbreyting.

    The merging parties' activities overlap in the market for utilities for sewage and drainage. The overlap of the merging parties is primarily in wells and sand traps. However, there is limited substitutability between the merging parties' products.

    On basis of the facts of the case, the Competition Authority concluded that there are no grounds for intervention because of the merger.
