  The Icelandic Competition Authority investigated the purchase of Skeljungur hf. of all the shares in Basko ehf. Skeljungur is primarily active in the fuel market and Basko in the grocery market and related markets. In light of Basko's financial position, the parties had previously been authorized to execute the merger while it was being investigated by the Competition Authority.

  Following the investigation of the case, it was the opinion of the Competition Authority that the merger would neither create nor strengthen a dominant position of the merged company. In addition, there were no indications that Skeljungur's acquisition of Basko would significantly distort competition. Therefore, there were no grounds for intervention because of the merger.
