  • Summary

Rammi and Sigurbjörn notified the Icelandic Competition Authority (ICA), on the 19th September 2019, of Rammi’s acquisition of all shares in Sigurbjörn. The transaction was considered to constitute a merger within the scope of application of the Icelandic Competition Act.

The merging parties both operate in the fisheries sector, most prominently as concerns this case, in the market of fishing in Icelandic waters and in the market of fish processing and sales of fish products. The merger in question is therefore a horizontal merger.

According to the Icelandic Fisheries Authority, the combined annual fishing quota of the merging parties does not constitute grounds to consider market dominance being established or strengthened.

The ICA therefore is not of the opinion that intervention in the form of annulment or conditions is warranted.
