  • Summary

With its decision no. 33/2012, following settlements and leniency applications, a cartel between N1 hf. (today Festi hf.), Sorpa bs., Metan ehf. and Orkuveita Reykjavíkur (Reykjavík Energy) was stopped. The cartel affected the production, distribution and sale of methane gas (mainly intended for vehicles). With the decision, the undertakings concerned were fined and certain remedies were applied.

With this decision, ICA has reviewed the remedies. ICA has concluded that the circumstances for production and sale of methane gas have changed considerably since decision no. 33/2012 and warrant withdrawal of the remedies. Following this decision the companies still need to make sure that their operations are in line with the Competition Act, among other Article 10 (cartels) and Article 11 (abuse of dominance).
