  The Icelandic Competition Authority (ICA) has reviewed the acquisition of Strahn II, a recently founded holding company, of Póstmiðstöðin ehf., Póstþjónustan ehf. and Póstdreifing ehf. The undertakings operate in different areas of postal services. Póstdreifing ehf. distributes Fréttablaðið (newspaper) to all homes in the capital area and Akureyri six days a week. Strahn II has with its acquisition procured private rights to distribution of Fréttablaðið until the end of the year 2021.

  After its investigation it is the ICA's assessment that the merger will neither give rise to a dominant position nor strengthening of a dominant position in any market. The merger will separate direct ownership of publishing and distribution of Fréttablaðið and in the ICA's opinion increase competition in newspaper and magazine distribution in the future as well as other related markets. Therefore, there is no reason to intervene in this merger on the basis of Article 17 c of the Icelandic Competition Act no. 44/2005.
