  • Summary

The Icelandic Competition Authority (ICA) has examined the merger between Ölgerðin Egill Skallagrímsson hf. and Kolefni ehf. Ölgerðin is one of the largest food wholesalers in Iceland, the company produces, imports, distributes and sells various types of food and beverages on a wholesale level. Kolefni is a holding company and its sole purpose is to own the real estate property located at Grjótháls 7-11 in Reykjavík. This property accommodates Ölgerðin's headquarters, since its construction the company has rented the property from Kolefni. The proposed transaction has thus no effect on Ölgerðin's operations.

After investigating the merger, the ICA deems that the merger will not lead to a disruption of competition in the markets involved in the case. Therefore, there is no reason to intervene in this merger on the basis of Article 17 of the Icelandic Competition Act.
