  • Summary

The Icelandic Competition Authority (ICA) has examined the merger between FISK Seafood ehf. and Soffanías Cecilsson hf. FISK Seafood is owned by Kaupfélag Skagfirðinga hf. The undertakings operate in the same field although they produce different products. FISK Seafood produces and sells frozen fish and lightly salted but Soffanías Cecilsson produces and sells salted fish. Both undertakings own shrimp quota. FISK Seafood processes the shrimp that the company fishes but Soffanías Cecilsson sells unprocessed shrimp. After investigating the merger, the ICA deems that the merger will not lead to disruption of competition in the markets of the case. Therefore, there is no reason to intervene in this merger on the basis of Article 17 of the Icelandic Competition Act.
