The Merger of Ísfell ehf. and Dímon Lína ehf.

The Icelandic Competition Authority (ICA) has examined the merger between Ísfell ehf. (Ísfell) and Dímon Lína ehf. (Dímon Lína) on February 1st 2013. The merger came about with Ísfell‘s acquisition of Dímon Lína’s operations, sales dealerships, trade connections and liquid assets. Ísfell is an undertaking specializing in fishing supplies and fishing equipment service, emergency service supplies and industrial supplies, focusing mainly on selling fishing gear to net fishing boats and smaller longliners. Dímon Lina’s operation is also focused on fishing supplies, especially fishing gear sales for the larger longliners and related services. The merger will create a stronger undertaking in the market for fishing equipment sales to Icelandic fishing-vessel operators. After its investigation, the ICA has come to the conclusion that, although some consolidation will occur within the market for fishing equipment for fisheries in Iceland, the merger will not have negative effects on domestic competition. Consequently there is no reason to intervene in this merger on the basis of the Icelandic Competition Act no. 44/2005.
