Merger of Límtré Vírnet ehf. and Bindir og Stál ehf.

The Icelandic Competition Authority (hereinafter ICA) has examined the merger between Límtré Vírnet ehf. (hereinafter Límtré Vírnet) and Bindir & Stál ehf. (hereinafter Bindir og Stál). Límtré Vírnet is a production- and industrial company which is active on several markets within the overall market of construction industry products. The company mainly engages in the production and distribution of cladding, glulam and sandwich panels along with imports of steel frame structures and other components for building solutions for contractors, resellers and individuals. Bindir og Stál's activities consist of processing and distributing reinforcing bars by cutting and bending it, along with sales of related equipment and products and repair service on those equipment and products.   

After its investigation it is the ICA's assessment that the merger will neither give rise to a dominant position nor strengthen of a dominant position in any market. The merger is not considered liable to cause appreciable harm to competition in other ways. Therefore, there is no reason to intervene in this merger on the basis of Article 17 c.  of the Icelandic Competition Act no. 44/2005.
